By now everybody has heard of Bitcoin, which is a cryptocurrency. A cryptocurrency is a new age currency that is typically, decentralised and without borders. This decentralisation means that there is no central bank or monetary policy that can manipulate the value at the will of a small few. Cryptocurrencies are typically designed up front and adopted based on trust of that protocol by whoever wishes to use that currency. At this time, the most popular currency is Bitcoin, followed by Ethereum, LiteCoin and Ripple. Each currency is at least slightly different from the other, solving different problems or serving a slightly different use case. Cryptocurrencies are considered high risk investments, and as with all investments, your capital is at risk and the value of your investment may go down as well as up.
